Calling mums, dads, grandparents and carers....

At school we are teaching a curriculum called SEAL – Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning. These are very exciting lessons which help children to understand their feelings, thinking and behaviour, all of which help them to learn better.
Children who are happy, confident and understand their feelings are better able to concentrate on their work. They know how to get on with each other, how to make and keep friends, and to work well in the classroom. They are well-motivated and want to work hard and achieve. When parents help them with this at home, the children learn even more.
There are two themes each term, and new skills are learned through these themes. The children learn special skills and ways of working which help them. Each theme starts with an assembly, and the children do special activities in the classroom.
Themes include New Beginnings and Getting on and Falling Out. The first theme helps them to settle well in their new class at the beginning of the school year. The children learn about their feelings and how these affect their learning. They also learn how to choose the best behaviour for expressing their feelings. Getting On and Falling Out is a theme which explores the skills needed to make and keep friends. They learn the Peaceful Problem Solving Process.
You are especially invited to a series of eight Family SEAL sessions for mums, dads and other carers. This will give you the chance to find out more about SEAL, the skills your children are learning this term, and the ways you can help your children to become good learners and happy friends. If teachers, mums, dads and carers are all using similar approaches, children find it easier to learn. You will spend the first part of each session finding out about SEAL, and your child will join you for a SEAL activity.
Please sign the attached form including whether you need to book any places for young children at the crèche which will be provided free of charge. There are also weekly free gifts for parents who attend.
